UV disinfection for salt water / seawater with bypass piping — BioUV range. Reactors made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene): robust, corrosion-resistant and inert, suitable for corrosive environments. A fast, by-product-free UVC process: UV-C damages the DNA of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, algae, yeasts, molds, including Legionella and Cryptosporidium), rendering them harmless. 2-year warranty • High-performance lamps ≈ 13,000 h • Free delivery in the EU.
Compatibility / Range
BioUV PE HO: from PE 330 HO to PE 6250 HO
Bypass piping for easier integration and maintenance
This range of specific reactors for UV disinfection for corrosive and/or salt water makes it possible to meet the most stringent requirements of professionals and thus optimize their operations in complete safety. Reactors made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are not only suitable for disinfecting seawater. Thanks to their impact- and corrosion-resistant composition, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio while guaranteeing very high quality water.
HDPE is very suitable for UV disinfection for corrosive water. It is an inert material widely used in the food industry. It is distinguished both by its high chemical resistance and its good rigidity. The temperature range of use is from -50°C to +80°C, which distinguishes it from polypropylene (PP), which becomes brittle below 10°C. HDPE is an excellent material for mixtures of acids, bases or solvents. Many professionals prefer HDPE reactor-based systems, even for non-corrosive fluids.
How UV Disinfection for Corrosive Water Works
UV disinfection systems for corrosive water are compact and produce extremely fast treatment. Ultraviolet light mutates and/or degrades DNA. Once the DNA is damaged, the organism becomes unable to function because its “instructions” are scrambled or missing. An organism without instructions cannot function and reproduce, and cannot cause infection. He becomes harmless and eventually dies.
Elimination of the bacterial risk on the breeding environment
In UV disinfection systems, water is purified through an HDPE chamber (also known as a “reactor”) that contains one or more special UV-producing lamps. When water passes in front of the lamp, UV-C penetrates the heart of the DNA and disrupts the metabolism of the cells until they are completely destroyed. Viruses, bacteria, algae, yeasts, molds… all germs are inactivated (including Legionella and Cryptosporidium). Moreover, this technology offers a huge benefit in that it does not generate any disinfection by-products, which further protects the environment and aquatic life.
Under normal use conditions:
2 years, for the HDPE reactor (materials and welds)
2 years for all components except the UV lamp and the quartz sheath (consumable).

HDPE UV disinfection systems for corrosive water are sized according to the flow rate: it is the combination of the contact time in the reactor, the power of the lamp(s), and the consideration of the specific transmittance of salt water (85% – lower than fresh water) that guarantees a dose (expressed in millijoules per centimetre – mJ/cm2) necessary and sufficient for the eradication of 99.9% of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, suspended algae,…).
Once the order has been placed, the above-mentioned period runs (excluding weeks 31 to 34 and 51 to 52) from the date of receipt of payment and validation of the project plan (including all the options requested in the case of special needs). As soon as the equipment is ready, it will be shipped to you. Road transport requires an average of one week to set up, it can go up to 3 weeks for a container depending on the destination. Please refer to the supplier’s specific terms and conditions for more information.
