UV bulbs for disinfection

UV bulbs are at the heart of the UVC disinfection system. Each UV bulb can disinfect up to several hundred liters per minute, depending on the quality of the water to be treated. Conventional low-pressure UV lamps made of quartz glass offer excellent efficiency. 90% of the electrical power can be used as 254nm UVC radiation to disinfect water.

UV bulb maintenance

Before any intervention, remember that :

    1. UV bulbs must be recycled according to your country’s regulations. Do not throw them in the regular or industrial waste, as they contain mercury particles.
    2. When replacing a UV lamp, you should not put your fingers on the glass. Cleaning the lamps with alcohol will remove any traces.
    3. The light produced by a UV bulb must be carefully protected from direct or indirect prying eyes.

When replacing the UVC lamp, be careful not to put your fingers on the glass. Cleaning the lamps with alcohol will remove any finger marks.

When should you replace?

It is recommended to replace UV bulbs after 13000 hours of operation, to maintain the guarantee of a sufficient level of irradiation. This replacement can be done at the same time as that of the UV Quartz sheaths (if they are damaged). When the sleeves are properly maintained, experience shows that a replacement every two lamps is sufficient (here every 26000 hours / 3 years for example)

How does the maintenance of UV bulbs work?

Materials needed:

After shutting down and securing your installation, all you have to do is remove the connector part to access the UV lamps.

  1. Remove the old UV lamp and are O-ring
  2. Replace the quartz sleeve if necessary
  3. Mount the new lamp
  4. Position the new O-ring
  5. Reattach the connector part

How to recycle UV bulbs?

That’s easy! Place the old UV lamp in the packaging of the new lamp and, for those using original Bio UV reactors, write “recycling” and then ship to have your used lamps reprocessed at an approved recycling facility.

  • Pools
  • Spa
  • Freshwater aquariums and ornamental ponds
  • Aquaponics
  • Aquaculture / freshwater fish farming
  • More generally, all fresh, clear waters containing less than 20 mg/L of suspended solids, NTU < 1, and iron < 0.1 mg/L

Germicidal UV bulbs disinfect water effectively. This space-saving solution offers protection against leakage, temperature fluctuations, fouling and breakage. A UV disinfection reactor with good UV quartz sheaths prevents environmental risks over time.

  • UV bulbs from the latest technologies with High Intensity (HO) performance
  • Very long lamp life (13,000 hours depending on the number of times the lamp is turned on)
  • High performance
  • Low power consumption
  • UV lamps adapted to your needs (see the UV disinfection sizing section)
  • Maintenance: easy and quick to change the lamp
