UV lamp for disinfection

UV lamps are the heart of the UVC disinfection system. Each UV lamp can disinfect up to several hundred liters per minute, depending on the quality of the water to be treated. Conventional low pressure UV lamps made of quartz glass offer excellent efficiency. 90% of the electrical power can be used as 254 nm UVC radiation to disinfect water.

UV lamp maintenance

Before any intervention, remember that :

  1. UV lamp should be recycled in accordance with your country’s regulations. Do not dispose of them in ordinary or industrial waste, as they contain mercury particles.
  2. When replacing a UV lamp, do not put your fingers on the glass. Cleaning the lamps with alcohol will remove any traces.
  3. The light produced by a UV lamp must be carefully protected from direct or indirect view.

When replacing the UV lamp, be careful not to put your fingers on the glass. Cleaning the lamps with alcohol will remove any fingerprints.

When should I replace it?

It is advised to replace the UV lamp after 13,000 hours of service, to maintain the guarantee of a sufficient level of irradiation. This can be done at the same time as replacing the Quartz UV sleeves (if they are damaged). When the sheaths are properly maintained, experience shows that a replacement every two lamps is sufficient (here every 26000 hours / 3 years for example)

So how does the maintenance of UV lamps work?

Materials needed:

After shutting down and securing your installation, you only need to remove the connector part to access the UV lamps.

  1. Remove the old UV lamp and its O-ring
  2. Replace the quartz sleeve if necessary
  3. Install the new lamp
  4. Position the new O-ring
  5. Reattach the connector part

How to recycle UV lamps?

It’s easy! Simply place the old UV lamp in the new lamp package and, for those using original Bio UV reactors, write “recycling” and ship your used lamps to an approved recycling facility.

  • Pools
  • Spas
  • Aquariums and freshwater ponds
  • Aquaponics
  • Freshwater aquaculture / fish farming
  • Usually, all fresh and clear waters containing less than 20 mg/L of TSS, NTU < 1, and iron < 0.1 mg/L

Germicidal UV lamp efficiently disinfects water. This compact solution offers protection against leakage, temperature fluctuations, fouling and breakage. A UV disinfection reactor with good quartz UV sleeves prevents environmental risks over time.

  • UV lamps from the latest technologies with High Intensity (HO) performance
  • High durability of the lamps (13 000 hours depending on the number of times they are switched on)
  • High efficiency
  • Low energy consumption
  • UV lamps adapted to your needs (see UV disinfection design section)
  • Maintenance: very quick and easy lamp change
